By signing up for a long distance event like Ironman 70.3 you are signing up to time training -dedicating many of your weekends to long rides and long runs. You are commiting to time away from your loved ones, other activities you love, and responsibilities you have - to train. So why do we do it? What is it that we have to prove?
For many people, Ironman is something that they want to prove to themselves. Prove to themselves, and to everyone they know, that they can propel themselves the ridiculous 70.3 miles, which to most of society appears like a near impossible task, bordering on insanity.
For others it is providing them with a goal to strive for. A date to circle in their calendar to prepare for, to put in their training time, watch their diet, and get into shape because without that goal it is harder to get off that couch.
For still others, the Ironman 70.3 is truly a race. These people are racing the distance to see if they can beat a personal best time or race all comers in a bid to be top in their age-group. Perhaps even with a goal to earn a spot to race in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Clearwater Florida next November. For some this race is not a destination, it is one stop on a longer road for a full Ironman goal race later in the season.
Whatever your personal goal is and what it is you want to prove, our goal at Ironman Calgary 70.3 is to help you achieve it. This PB on-line magazine is meant to give you the knowledge and advice to get you there.
